The 5th Democratic presidential primary debate will take place in or around Atlanta on Nov. 20, ABC News reports. It will be the first Democratic presidential primary debate to take place in Georgia since 1992, when Bill Clinton faced off against Bob Kerrey and Paul Tsongas, according to AJC.com.
To qualify for the debate, candidates need to cross polling and donor thresholds higher than the ones the DNC set for the fourth debate, Politico reports, which will be held next week in Westerville, Ohio.
Candidates must have four surveys of at least 3% in national or early-state polls or get at least 5 % support in two polls from the early states of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina, Fivethirtyeight.com reports. Candidates also need contributions from 165,000 unique donors—including at least 600 individual donors in at least 20 states.
So far, eight candidates have met the criteria, and they are:
Former Vice President Joe Biden
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker
South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg
California Sen. Kamala Harris
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders
Businessman Tom Steyer
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Entrepreneur Andrew Yang
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said in September that, “When you look at what’s at stake in Georgia — two Senate races — there aren’t many opportunities like that. To have that opportunity in Georgia, it only makes sense that we bring this field of candidates to our state.”
The debate will air on MSNBC and be co-hosted by The Washington Post.
